Original Abstract
the aim of this article is to compare possibilities of the ontology usage in automation. In the first part there is the ontology definition and its generic form discussed as well as the connection between ontology and semantic web. In the second part, there are shown the possibilities of the ontology usage in automation, especially usage of ontology as metadata storage. The last part of the paper describes ontology for sensors and the way which includes the influences of environment to ontology. The paper describes the ontology as a part of diagnostics system.
