Original Abstract

This research report builds on previous two reports focused on description and evaluation of experiments of thermal and thermochemical disintegration of digested sludge. The effect on sludge dewatering was studied. Based on the laboratory tests the suitable conditions were chosen. A disintegration unit with the capacity of 10.8 t/d of a liquid sludge (refers to a wastewater treatment plant capacity of 10 000 population equivalents) was designed and the effect of disintegration of the back load of water line was assessed. Further, stress analysis and considerations concerning the vessel heating were elaborated. Finally, an economical evaluation of the process was carried out. In the evaluation, a payback period of approx. 15 y was determined, which emerges from the savings in sludge disposal.
