Original Abstract

This study examines different solid phase extraction (SPE) methods for preconcentration and purification of antibiotics in the river water. Drugs and their residues enter to the wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) within excrements. It is known, that here they are not completely removed and can discharge to the environment. Their further negative impact on the water and soil ecosystem cannot therefore be excluded. Sulfonamides, which are widely used in human and veterinary medicine, were selected as target compounds. Recoveries of the selected antibiotics at different sample volumes on various SPE columns were tested. Two SPE columns with different amount of sorbent were chosen (ENVI 18 SPE Tubes, 6 ml, 0,5 g and ENVI 18 SPE Tubes, 6 ml, 1 g); one sample without pH adjustment, and one sample with pH adjustment. Seven different volumes (10, 50, 100, 200, 300, 400; 500 ml) were tested. For determination of sulfonamides high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector was used.
