Original Abstract

Ductile cast-iron rollers are cast into cylindrical iron moulds. It is necessary to cast rollers with significantly improved utility properties. The requirements cannot be met without perfect knowledge of the course of solidification. It is necessary to use a numerical model of the temperature field of the entire system - comprising the casting, the mould and ambient. The kinetics of the solidification has a non-negligible influence on the chemical and structural heterogeneity of the cast-iron. An original methodology for the measurement of microheterogeneity had been developed - based on the results of the model of the temperature field of the cast rollers.
