Original Abstract

The paper deals with the fuzzy analysis of the ultimate limit state of a steel strut with encased web in compression. The first part of the paper lists presumptions required for the determination of the theoretical load carrying capacity of the column. Stresses in the concrete and steel sections are determined according to the principles of elasticity. The ultimate limit state is given as the limit stress attained in the most stressed section of either the steel or concrete section. General extended principle, which takes into account the epistemic uncertainty of input parameters, was utilized for the analysis. Basic procedures and methods securing reliability stem from statistical approaches enabling the design of load carrying structures and the determination of characteristic and design values of resistance of both non-traditional material types, which were used in earlier building practices exclusively for non-bearing structural parts and their usage for load bearing structural parts wasn't common and partly in modern types of structural parts and components whose real effect within the whole load bearing system isn't always, for e.g. due to the utilization of modern and frequently unconventional ways of structural solution, sufficiently examined.
