Original Abstract

Arsenic is well known as a toxic element that occurs in foodstuffs in several forms. These forms have for humans different toxicity, therefore is total amount of arsenic in the foodstuffs insufficient information. The aim of the present work is speciation of arsenic in fish samples. Speciation method included coupling of separation by high performance liquid chromatography and detection by hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry. Fish samples were extracted using five different extraction mixtures and their efficiency were compared. Obtained results showed that in all analysed samples extractable arsenic was present in the form of nontoxic arsenobetaine.
