Original Abstract

Microbial adhesion to the surface of composite resins and other restorative materials is an important parameter in the aetiology of dental caries. The aim of this study was to optimized the method for quantification of plaque deposition. The test surfaces used were a commercial microhybrid composite (Adoro, Ivoclar Vivadent), a commercial D3MA resin-based material (Advanced Dental Materials) and a commercial ceramic material (Ivoclar Vivadent) as reference material. The adhesion was tested with Streptococcus mutans. Microbial culture was inoculated into sterile test tubes in BHIB with tested specimens and incubated anaerobically for 17 hours. For the determination of bacterial adhesion the modified method of Biuret was used. Protein concentration was obtained spectrophotometrically at 540 nm.
