Original Abstract

In the present paper the group velocity of a signal in a dispersive medium is defined as the velocity of the temporal centre of gravity of the signal envelope. An analytical expression of the envelope of a very short electromagnetic pulse in waveguides with imperfectly conducting walls is derived together with the analytical expression of the group velocity of this pulse. For the above expressions the range of validity is delimited.
