Original Abstract

Microphone (in general sensor) arrays have a very wide range for possible utilization. In this paper we focus their application on the speech processing. The essential task of the field of the array signal processing (ASP) is the source localization or direction of arrival estimation, respectively, which will is shown there for speech signals. The algorithms are already known, we discuss there the ability to recognize the correct position of the speaker in dependence on the particular phonemes of the utterance. We have simulated vowels as well as consonants degraded by a variety of the additive noise levels. In conclusion the potential use of sensor arrays for speech enhancement is also shown.
