Original Abstract

Recently railway administration companies found overloading of ballast bed under concrete sleepers. This overloading causes an irregular settlement of track length and consequently a decrease of track quality. Such deterioration leads to significantly higher dynamic effects, which cause defects or failures of permanent way elements, e.g. failures of frogs, cracks of the sleepers, breakage of screws etc. The paper is focused on analysis of railway track bed parameters at dynamic loading. The measurement of track elements vibration and rail deflection is proposed as a tool for explanation of dynamic behaviour of ballasted track. The analysis of the concrete sleeper behaviour in ballast bed includes theoretical and experimental parts. The theoretical analysis discusses the application of the theory for beam on an elastic foundation for moving axles and boogies. The influence of dynamic parameters on the shape of rail deflection curve for a typical boogie is studied. The large amount of measurements of vibration parameters has been done both in plain track and in switches and crossings. The goal of the measurement usually was identification of failures and defects mechanism. The vibration frequency spectra for different type of rail structures are studied and compared. The records of vertical displacements of track elements were analysed either qualitatively or quantitatively for the assessment of track vertical stiffness, damping ratio and critical velocity or for the assessment for gaps under concrete sleepers and bearers. This method has been used for the evaluation of trail track sections for rail fastening with high elasticity and for sleepers with under sleeper pads. The experiments aimed in dynamic behaviour of railway structures provide possibility to effectively asses either track elements in trial track sections or undesirable effects of dynamic load due to the advanced evaluation methods.
