Original Abstract

The WirelessHART specification is part of the HART specification version 7.0 which was released in September 2007. WirelessHART is based on the IEEE 802.15.4 radio technology and uses the 2.4 GHz ISM band for communication. It was designed for use in industrial automation applications, more specific in process automation. This paper presents an approach of a formal description of WirelessHART devices using UML. The main aim of this work is to support WirelessHART implementations to avoid failures and to shorten the time to the market. The model description is still in progress, therefore this paper will describe the fundamental advantages of the WirelessHART standard and a few results of the UML model design.
