Original Abstract

Concretes based on alkali activated slag exhibit higher resistance against high temperatures than concretes made from Portland cement. In order to take advantage of this binder, the utilization of heat-resistant aggregates, such as electrical porcelain, is desirable. We have examined the influence of aggregate size on the behavior of the composite during heat loading to 1200 C and the mechanical properties after high temperature exposure. The microstructure was investigated by using mercury intrusion porosimetry and scanning electron microscopy.
