Original Abstract

The differential protections present basic protection to protect power transformers, motors, generators, power transformer-generator units, bus bars and important lines. Differential protection has to operate in very short time to faults in the protection zone, but it must not operate to faults outside. Differential protection has special requirements on current transformer. This paper deals with problem of current transformer saturation during transient condition. The current transformer in saturation could impact the behavior of the differential protection function and consequently the selectivity.
