Original Abstract

An innovative approach in the analysis of the uncertainty of steel structural behaviour based on the fuzzy set theory and its effective exploitation in stochastic methods of engineering reliability is presented. The aim of the paper is the fuzzy analysis of the misalignments of the failure probabilities according to the concepts of EN1990. The utilized approach enables the quantification of the vague uncertainty of input statistical characteristics and of output failure probabilities. The paper contributes to discussions on the adequacy of the utilization of probabilistic approaches in the assessment of the reliability of load bearing structures in design practice.
