Original Abstract

The purpose of this comparative case study is to examine the specificities of leadership in Germany and the Czech Republic by conducting interviews with German and Czech managers. The study aimes to contribute to the existing literature on leadership by providing a deeper understanding of the leadership practices in these two neighbouring countries in the European Union. The results of this research indicate that, despite their close proximity, there are considerable differences in leadership practices between Germany and the Czech Republic. To carry out this research, a qualitative approach was chosen, using semi-structured interviews with German and Czech managers. The data collected from these interviews was then analysed and compared to identify the specificities of leadership in each country. The results showed that leadership practices in Germany and the Czech Republic differed in several key aspects, including decision-making processes and communication styles. The findings have important implications for managers working in multinational companies. The results of this study complement the results of the Global Leadership and Behavioural Effectiveness (GLOBE) Project, which used a quantitative approach to examine leadership practices across different countries. However, it should be noted that the results of our study are limited in their generalizability and transferability, as they are based on a qualitative approach and focused on two specific countries. In conclusion, this comparative case study highlights the importance of considering cultural differences when studying leadership practices. The results of this research show that, despite their proximity, leadership practices differ considerably between Germany and the Czech Republic. The study contributes to the existing literature by providing a deeper understanding of the specifics of leadership in these two countries.
