Original Abstract

This contribution deals with a potentially dangerous phenomenon called ponding effect. It might occur in case of an insufficient design of a tensile surface structure that is prone to water ponding due to the great deformability. The algorithm for ponding effect detection was developed and implemented in the finite element solver. It considers the precipitation, liquid density and can also be used for conventional structures. Firstly, the results of the algorithm are verified on a simple structure. Subsequently, it is used for verification of the ponding effect occurrence on the membrane structure of the commonly used shape. The results may provide recommendations for a future design of tensile surface structures of this shape.
