Abstract

Within the AI4DI project, a comprehensive system for measuring and analyzing inter-turn short circuits was developed. The system consists of a configurable multiphase motor. This motor can be connected via a terminal block as a two times three-phase motor with segregated winding, or as two times three-phase motor with interlaced winding. The motor can also be connected as an ordinary three-phase motor. Various types of short circuits can be emulated inside the motor. It is possible to emulate inter-turn short circuits of different depths, and it is also possible to emulate short circuiting between phases. If the motor is connected as a two times three-phase motor, it is possible to emulate an interphase short circuit between the sub-systems. The short circuit is created using the Fault Insertion Module (FIU). It consists of a power relay and a power thyristor module. The module can be used for currents up to 0.5 kA and for voltages up to 900 V. Thanks to this configuration, the module has a significantly longer service life and allows fault emulation in real time, making it possible to analyze transients when a fault occurs. The motor is connected to a dynamometer. It enables to subsequently set various operating conditions in which the short-circuit is emulated. The motor is controlled by a six-phase frequency converter, which contains digital outputs for FIU control. The whole system is controlled from MATLAB Simulink. With the help of prepared scripts, it is possible to start automated data collection using pre-prepared test patterns. The system can collect information about the position, currents and voltages of the motor as well as the current value of the short-circuit current. The sampling frequency used for data acquisition is the same as the PWM frequency.
