Original Abstract

The main part of our work was improvement of the experimental apparatus - reactor and the other fundamental construction parts. The applied high voltage generating the discharge was varied in the range of 2 - 4 kV, the air, nitrogen and its mixtures with argon or oxygen were used as carrying gas with flow rate of at least 1500 ml min-1. The optical emission spectroscopy has been chosen as the best method to characterize the plasma generated in the discharge channel. The product analysis proceeded in a gas chromatograph linked to mass spectrometer. The products of decomposition were adsorbed on active coal in the sorption tubes and then extracted to carbon disulphide. This solution was used for analysis in GC-MS. During some difficulties with analytical method, the whole work was focused on removal efficiency of toluene (as an aromatic model of VOC compounds). The most efficient decomposition was 72 % in one stage reactor.
