Original Abstract

The electrodynamic forces caused by the short-circuit currents in low voltage circuit breakers are not only used for moving the arc into the quenching chamber but they also provide a good opportunity to affect the movement of the contact in the opening phase. The first part of this contribution contains theoretical analysis that describes effects of electrodynamic forces on the parts of the current-carrying conductor. Special attention is focused on the influence of current strait between the contacts. Performed calculations of forces are analysed in the next part. The forces are calculated by the finite element method (FEM). The computer program ANSYS is used.
