Original Abstract

Rapid sintering techniques are designed to effectively and predictably control ceramic microstructure during the sintering process. This work introduces rapid sintering techniques that are using electric current internal heating and external electromagnetic field heating. The basis of technical elements of Spark Plasma Sintering, Flash Sintering, Capacitor discharge sintering, Selective Laser Sintering, Induction sintering, and Microwave sintering are described together with the pros and cons. Similarities and differences in sintering mechanisms are discussed when applying these techniques to ceramic materials. Future challenges and perspectives for the application of these methods are discussed.
