The efficiency and lifespan of bonded facade joints can be increased and extended by designing the optimal size of façade cladding. There is a relationship of inverse proportion between the size of a façade cladding and the stiffness of the support, i.e. the bonded joint. In general, the higher the stiffness of the support, the smaller the size of the cladding can be used in the design. The paper deals with the verification of the properties of selected adhesive systems, two of which are polyurethane-based and two are based on silyl modified polymers, and their effect on the maximum possible size of façade cladding. The numerical approach was chosen to determine the optimal size of the façade cladding. The calculation system based on a variant of finite element method, the deformable discrete element method, was used. The effect of the stiffness of the adhesive was assessed in combination with façade claddings which had a relatively high thermal and moisture expansion. It was therefore necessary for the bonded joint to be flexible and to adapt to these dimensional changes without creating greater internal tension. Consistent results were recorded only in the combination with one representative – the polyurethane-based adhesive. A 2.2 m2 cladding was proposed. In the other assessed cases, early breakage of the joint was recorded in case of this cladding size. In combination with modified polymer-based adhesives, the size of the cladding had to be reduced by up to 50%. In general, it was observed that the selected MS polymer-based façade adhesives were less ductile and more rigid.
