Original Abstract

This paper describes a novel methodology for semi-probabilistic design with correlated variables. Commonly known Estimation of Coefficient of Variation (ECoV) method is extended for correlated variables using linear transformation with Cholesky decomposition of covariance matrix. Application of the generalized ECoV method applied for 2-dimensional practical example is presented in this pilot study. As can be seen in the last section, correlation of material characteristics could lead to significantly different design value in comparison with the standard ECoV assuming uncorrelated variables.
