Original Abstract

Oscillatory wind waves represent most frequent hydrodynamic load on both dams and reservoir banks. Waves significantly affects durability of dams and endanger lands surrounding the reservoir thanks to the long term action. To prevent abrasion of embankments and banks several types of protective measures can be applied. To be able to find effective measure a load caused by waves has to be evaluated. This article summarizes procedure used for evaluation of hydrodynamic load caused by waves together with technical measures that can be used for protection of dams and reservoir banks.
