Original Abstract

Every building and/or structure has to withstand a lot of environmental changes during the year as well as its service life. Therefore, certain attention should be given to the application of sealants in buildings where adhesive properties for the assembly of two substrates are an important indicator of the upcoming durability. A group of test samples was subjected to two normalised test procedures which may influence the resulting behaviour of the joint in the exterior. The second group of test samples was exposed to the external environment for a particular period. The obtained results show that the standardised methods are able to simu-late an outdoor environment only to a certain level, since the laboratory environment is clean and dust-free, while it is not possible to ensure the same conditions in-situ. In some cases it was monitored that some sealants tested in an external environment aged rapidly compared to the ones cured and stored in the laboratory.
