Original Abstract

Combustion modelling with modern user-friendly codes such as ANSYS FLUENT is used widely in design and troubleshooting of furnaces and boilers. Rigorous validation is required to assess ability of the model to capture real system behaviour. The present work provides both detailed in-flame validation as well as extensive parametric study of outlet NOx emissions. It also covers several alternative chemistry models. Practicing combustion engineers, who rely on the capabilities of general-purpose CFD code ANSYS FLUENT are given useful guidance on the relative reliability of their predictions, especially NOx, on several major factors.
