Original Abstract

Mobile laser scanning (MLS) is popular not only for scanning in urban areas but also for scanning nature objects. Unlike airborne laser scanning data, MLS has bigger point density, and it is harder for software to handle them. In this paper, we were testing robust filtering on MLS datasets captured in the forest area of the Moravian Karst by Riegl VMX - 450 scanner. The data was taken in the same area of the Moravian Karst in May and then in December 2015. To process the data, we used software OPALS. We applied thinning and hierarchical interpolation to make data more homogenous and prepare point clouds for robust filtering. Then, from the classified terrain points, two digital terrain models were interpolated (grid size (0.5 x 0.5) m) and compared. The vertical accuracy of the DTM from December dataset is 0.11 m.
