Mezi častý způsob povrchových úprav stěn v interiéru patřily v historii tapety. V 17. až 19. století se používaly materiály odlišné od těch současných. V době, kdy na prvním místě byla okázalost a ne ekonomičnost, si panovníci mohli pro výrobu tapet dovolit použít suroviny, které by dnes byly jen těžko dostupné, jejich zpracování náročné a cena vysoká. Jedním z takových materiálů je například kůže. V článku je popsána historie vývoje tapet ve světě i na území Česka. Dále se článek podrobněji věnuje jednotlivým druhům historických tapet, které se nacházejí na zámcích v Čechách a na Moravě, a jejich aplikaci na stěny. Kromě estetičnosti považuji za důležité zmínit, že některé kožené a těžké textilní tapety, s výrazně větší tloušťku než ostatní druhy tapet, mohou mít vliv na tepelně technické vlastnosti obvodových stěn a dále mohou mít vliv na pohodu prostředí v interiéru.

In history, one of the most common method of interior walls surface finishing were wallpapers. In the 17th to 19th century they were used different materials than today. At the time when in the first place was opulence instead of economy, the sovereigns could use for the manufacture of wallpapers processing-intensive and high cost materials that would be hardly available nowadays. For example, one such material is leather. The article describes the history of the development of wallpapers in the world and in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, the article detailly describes individual types of historic wallpapers that are found in castles in Bohemia and Moravia, and their application on the wall. Besides aesthetics I regard as important to mention that some leather and heavy fabric wallpaper with significantly higher thickness than other types of wallpaper can affect the thermal properties of the external walls and their impact on the indoor comfort.
