Original Abstract

This paper points out the factors that influence the process of dropping water consumption and their impacts on the owners and operators of wastewater treatment plants. The impacts of decreasing water consumption on the WWTP are mainly economic aspects for the population, i.e. higher water and wastewater tariffs affected by the contractual terms related to the granted subsidies and sustainability, oversized civil structures at the wastewater treatment plants with a high buffer capability, unused capacity of equipment at wastewater treatment plants, lower energy intensity of various production plants and local factors. Currently, sewage treatment plants are not operated to the maximum performance of the WWTP and are not fully utilized.
