Original Abstract

Two baseline approaches are available for prediction of nitrogen oxides emissions. The first one is based on empirical and semiempirical models based exclusively on measurements. The second approach consist in comprehensive CFD modelling complemented by a NOx model. This contribution presents predictions of NOx emissions by both of these approaches and thus provides a comparison that indicates their respective advantages and drawbacks as well as evaluation of predictive power of the two approaches. The present semiempirical model is based on calculation of an equivalent effective temperature and has already been validated successfully. Here it was further developed to use information available from the CFD modelling in order to find out whether such information could improve the predictive accuracy of the semi-empirical model. These predictions are compared to the results of full CFD based NOx modelling using commercial software FLUENT and to the measured data.
