Čistící proces v zemních (půdních) filtrech ovlivňuje složení odpadních vod, základní fyzikální a hydraulické vlastnosti filtračního prostředí, především rychlost filtrace, doba zdržení, stupeň nasycení porézního prostředí, struktura, textura a zrnitostní složení, ale také klimatické podmínky prostředí, zejména teplota, biologické oživení filtračního lože apod. Při čištění odpadních vod v zemních filtrech a vegetačních kořenových čistírnách s horizontálním a vertikálním prouděním patří rozsah zakolmatování filtračního prostředí k důležitým činitelům, rozhodujícím o výsledném čisticím účinku a také o funkci filtru. V článku jsou uvedeny výsledky terénního i laboratorního výzkumu.

The choking of the filtration medium of reed bed plants, soil filters and the soils irrigated with sewage and with a stabilised fluid waste treatment plant sludge, ranks among significant problems requiring solution. The paper presented deals with the main causes of choking, which are the silted sewerage network not kept in good repair, the erroneously solved rainfall separators and a low-quality mechanical cleaning of waste water. This reality has been demonstrated by the results of research into a number of facilities lasting for several years. The paper gives a brief survey of the methods of prevention and a proposal of measures for their implementation.
