Original Abstract

The micromechanical retention is the main principle of the adhesion of composite filling materials to enamel and dentin. The conventional treatment is usually based on the acid etching of enamel and dentin, rinsing and applying of the bonding agent. The new concept of the self etching bonding is based on the two steps treatment with acidic and crosslinking monomers. The acidic monomer (the selfetching primer) should dissolve the smear layer on the dentin surface, decalcify the dentin as well as the enamel creating the retentive pattern in it.
