Original Abstract

The partial replacement of cement in concrete by an alternative admixture is a current topic in materials engineering. This is, of course, important from the financial and ecological viewpoints, but it also allows improvements in the mechanical properties and durability of cement-based composites to be achieved through the proper use of appropriate mineral admixtures. The advantages of these admixtures include their ability to suppress alkali-silica reaction (ASR).
