Original Abstract

PBDE belongs to group of brominated flame retardants. They are frequently used in various products due to their basic characteristics, as reducing flammability or preventing ignition. Many products of daily use content PBDEs, such as televisions, carpets, mattresses and others. PAH are important environmental pollutants. Sources of contamination are not only of anthropogenic origin but also nonanthropogenic, such as volcanic dust, wildfires and biochemical reactions. The ratio of anthropogenic and nonanthropogenic pollutants considerably has changed in the last 50 years as the amount of antropogenic pollution has risen mostly due to burning fossil fuels. Pressure solvent extraction of PBDE and PAH was selected as a sample preparation method. For the determination of PBDEs, gas chromatography with electron capture detector was chosen, for the analysis of PAHs and their derivates, gas chromatography with mass spectrometry was used.
