On the project

The project will focus on solid-solid (ex-situ) and liquid-solid (in-situ) molybdenum alloy or molybdenum matrix composite powders processing utilizing the high energy kinetic milling, reactive kinetic milling, mechanochemical synthesis, twin-screw extrusion and thermal treatment approaches. These materials are highly attractive for existing and emerging energy applications, especially for the power energetics industrial gas turbines and the aerospace gas turbines, where the increase of power generator energy gain and the reduction of CO2 emissions are extremely desirable outputs for sustainable and green society of the future. The effects of chemical and phase composition, texture and morphology of the mechanically activated components and the mechanochemical activation process parameters on the kinetics of occurring mechanochemical reactions and the composition and structure of products will be extensively investigated. The international partners will contribute to the project via providing their expertise in the fields of mechanochemical synthesis and solid-state chemistry (Dr. Adrea Deák, Hungarian Academy of Sciences), continuous and scalable extrusion mechanochemical synthesis (Deborah Crawford, Queen's University Belfast), and analytical chemistry, spectroscopy and instrumental analysis (Prof. Ede Bodoki, Iuliu Haţieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy). The expected impact of the project is to create the framework within CA18112 COST action for gaining and spreading of the knowledge on mechanochemical synthesis of refractory materials for modern and future energy production. Capacity building goal is to establish the expertise (not available in Czech Republic) aimed at the WG3 scale-up and the transfer of the developed refractory compounds from the laboratory to the industrial processes (plasma spray, spark plasma sintering, hot extrusion, etc), which enable the testing of new materials for emerging energy applications (focusing on ductile brittle transition temperature and high temperature oxidation behavior).
