Antibacterial bioresorbable polymer-phosphate cement filler for the treatment of infected bone defects

On the project

The project is focused on the design, preparation and characterization of antibacterial polymer-composite bone cement. The goal is to make biodegradable “self-setting” thixotropic polymer/ceramic bone paste loaded with antibiotics that can be possibly used into cavities of infected bone defects to heal osteomyelitis. The thixotropic bone paste should be easily passed through the thin, solidify within 5 – 10 minutes after the application into the bone defect followed by hydroxyapatite crystallization and antibiotic release.
