On the project

Plastic deformation of BCC metals of the VB and VIB groups differs significantly despite the fact that they have very similar crystal structures and bonding. Moreover, the role of internal magnetic order in bcc Cr and α-Fe remains largely unexplored. The goal of this project is to carry out detailed TEM investigations of the dislocation networks. Correlating these experimental results with recently completed atomistic simulations of these dislocation junctions will elucidate anomalous slip in these materials and explain why it is dominant in VB, minor in VIB groups and negligible in α-Fe.
