Project detail

Studium velmi tenkých mazacích filmů při neustálených provozních podmínkách

Duration: 01.01.2008 — 31.12.2010

On the project

Project addresses the effect of high pressure rheology on lubrication film thickness and traction within concentrated contacts. Both newtonian and non-newtonian lubricants will be used. The pressure and shear dependences of the viscosity of these lubricants will be measured with high-pressure viscometers. The lubrication film behavior between highly loaded machine parts will be modeled using an optical test rig and thin film colorimetric interferometry will be used to obtain film thickness distribution within lubricated contacts. Obtained results will be compared with data provided by current theoretical predictions and numerical solutions.

Description in English
Project is aimed at the study of the processes taking place under non-steady state conditions within highly loaded machine parts (bearings, gears and cams) to provide necessary information for the design of machine elements working under EHD lubrication regime. These non-steady conditions can results in increasing friction and wear of friction surfaces that significantly influence the durability and efficiency of machine elements. The project effectively uses the scientific experiences of both Chinese and Czech working groups in the proposed field to analyze the processes of the lubricant film forming during the working cycle of machine elements. It will make possible not only to validate theoretical models but also to predict the conditions resulting in the damage of machine parts.
