Unique microscope

Scientists from BUT Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) can observe live cells under a standard bulb and without using any contrast agents. This is possible thanks to unique microscope that was developed at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and successfully obtained European, American, Euro-Asian and Japanese patent.

Microscope uniqueness lies in the fact that it does not use laser or laser diode to enlighten observed cells. To provide a high quality image the microscope can work only with bulb, LED diode or lamp. With currently available holographic microscopes it was necessary to use laser, which was able to enlighten the observed material well, but the quality of image was not so good.

Another advantage of new microscope is that it does not require usage of contrast inks, which can influence behavior and character of cells. Nowadays team of scientists tries to improve the microscope so that it can observe cells in higher levels. They also develop a model for reflected light, which would be suitable for observing the surface and its exact measuring in nanometer units.
