Originální abstrakt

The cornerstone of sustainable development is represented by sustainable business activities. This paper looks at responsible business from a view of two main religions in the world: Christianity and Islam. There is this whole concept complicated by non-recognition of the corporation as a legal person in Islam. We found, there are noble human values, moral teaching of cooperation and charity as a part of Islamic religion. Christianity is based on those principles, too. Both religions emphasise cooperation and voluntary participation in various spiritual and material activities. In the Christian world we were to deal with a problem of its internal variety represented by many religious groups. We eliminated this issue by considering the Bible as a unifying point. The greatest commandment is love Agapé applying to all aspects of a Christian life, therefore also in a daily routine of business. Islamic system of religious law Shariah plays a supreme role in Islam and rules also business issues, among them investment activities as well. Furthermore, there is a Waqf in Islamic law meaning a Muslim should donate a part of his assets to religious or charitable purpouses held by a charitable trust. The current paper examines the ideal model of a sustainable business and its practices in Islam and Christian secular world.
