Switching of charge traps in the semiconducting bulk layer of the diode based on a solid state blend of a conjugated polymer and photochromic molecular switch has been tested. The molecular switch traps holes in one state, decreasing the current through the diode. The result is a diode that exhibits the reversible and bistable nature of a molecular switch in conjunction with traditional diode characteristics.
