Sto čtyřicáté výročí narození architekta Josefa Gočára je nejen příležitostí připomenout si estetické kvality jeho architektury, ale také podrobit jeho život a dílo novému kritickému pohledu a položit si otázku, jestli byly okolnosti jeho projektů skutečně takové, jak nám historie architektury i zažité mýty tvrdí. Přednáška se bude zabývat okolnostmi vybraných projektů Josefa Gočára v Hradci Králové, ale také sítí sociálních vazeb, kterou Gočár v Hradci měl a která mu při jeho rozmanitých angažmá ve městě pomáhala. Pokud se podíváme na Gočárovy zakázky pro Hradec Králové a jejich vývoj od studentských let do roku 1942, ukazuje se přibližně stejný podíl realizovaných a nerealizovaných projektů. Proč nebyl Gočár v Hradci vždycky úspěšný? A pokud dnes zdůrazňujeme kvality Gočárova urbanistického plánu, jaké kvality to doopravdy jsou a nenajdeme náhodou některé z nich už v předchozích plánech jeho méně slavnějších kolegů?

The one hundred and fortieth anniversary of the birth of architect Josef Gočár is not only an opportunity to recall the aesthetic qualities of his architecture, but also to subject his life and work to a new critical view and ask whether the circumstances of his projects were really what the history of architecture and experienced myths tell us. The lecture will deal with the circumstances of selected projects of Josef Gočár in Hradec Králové, but also with the network of social ties that Gočár had in Hradec and which helped him in his various engagements in the city. If we look at Gočár's orders for Hradec Králové and their development from the student years to 1942, it shows approximately the same share of implemented and unrealized projects. Why was Gočár not always successful in Hradec? And if today we emphasize the qualities of Gočár's urban plan, what qualities they really are and will we not happen to find some of them in the previous plans of his less famous colleagues?
