The Asset Administration Shell (AAS) is the Industrie 4.0 solution for digital twins. The digital twins contain digital representations of the assets in various domains and for various applications. The AAS have to be configured by the data accompanying the assets along their life cycle. Most companies already have a digital representation of their assets in terms of master data, planning documents, virtual models etc. This representation is often referred as a product database even if it is usually a distributed, often also heterogeneous or restructured storage in various formats, e.g. in files, databases, web pages. The required information has to be searched and found in the already existing data sets for the configuration of the AAS. This could be a task with big efforts which is time consuming and error-prone if it is done manually. Therefore, the configuration process needs assistance by methods which are able to find the information in the data bases of the manufactures and store them in an operable way. The common Czech/German funded TACR/BMWi project RACAS (Digital representation of Assets as a configurable AAS for OT and IT production systems) has developed an AAS configuration wizard and investigated information retrieval methods to find the necessary information in the technical documents of the product data stores of the manufacturer. This paper reports about the evaluation results of selected information retrieval methods.
