The last barrier to protect atmosphere and environment against harmful radiation in case of accident of nuclear reactor is containment. There are a lot of types of containments with different design. One of the containment design used is the ice condenser containment (ICND). Selected positive of ICND usage are a reduced price and built-up area – especially for the Western conception of Pressure Water Reactors (PWR). Utilization of ICND for the Eastern conception of PWR so called Water-Water Energetic reactor (WWER) was carried out for improved safety with no price and area reduction. The need of continuous cooling of ice and problems with melting process has forced to think about modern materials for utilization in condenser containment. The Czech Republic represented by Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication (FEEC) and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FME) within cooperation of the U.S. Texas A&M University in College Station are dealing with a project about Phase Change Materials and their possibilities for utilization in condenser containments.
