Reinforcing theoretical experience by the means of hand-on exercises is a fundamental concept utilised in many areas of teaching and education in general. Laboratory assignments at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien (UASTW) for instance employ models of human body systems and eHealth concepts to familiarize students with biomedical engineering related topics. Focusing on the respiratory system and its function is an electro-mechanical lung simulator, xPULM. This model can replicate human breathing under physiological conditions. Examining the properties of the human eye is a mechanical eye model. Construction of the model allows, for example, to evaluate the optical performance of intraocular lenses (IOLs). Introducing the data workflows in medicine is a task of Medical Data Center, where eHealth concepts and methodologies are taught. All the mentioned systems can be utilised for both teaching and research purposes exposing the student to new information stimuli from the area of biomedical engineering. This presentation will take you on a short journey throughout laboratories used for teaching at the UASTW and introduces options for international cooperation including students and staff mobility. Furthermore, information about the summer school 2020 organised by the MA23 funded project Health Connect in close cooperation with the hosting university Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Vila Real, Portugal.
