Quantum dots (QDs) are nanoparticles with the dimensions in the range of 2-10 nm. They are used as a fluorescent label in a variety of biological investigations. QDs have a broad absorption with narrow photoluminescence spectra, high resistance to photobleaching and high resistance to photo-and chemical degradation. Nowadays, they are usually made of semiconductor core capped with any organic derivative making the quantum dot water soluble. This organic compound covering the metal core also serves as a linker for further conjugation. Up to now, many efforts have been made to utilize quantum dots as immunochemical sensor. One of the possible ways is to conjugate the quantum dot with antibody. There are several methods of immuno-quantum dot preparation. The conjugation of antibodies or proteins to quantum dots using standard linking chemistry can be related to potential difficulties of working with nanoparticles. We have investigated an alternative approach of self-assembled immuno-quantum dot preparation using a peptide as a linker.
