Alkali-activated aluminosilicates [AAA] can be viewed as eco-friendly, economically advantageous building materials due to the fact that some industrial by products available for a reasonable price, such as blastfurnace slag or fly ash, can be used as their main components. Therefore, AAA can be considered as good competitors to widely used cement-based materials. AAA are in general electrically non-conductive. However, adding a sufficient amount of electrically conductive admixtures significantly decreases their electrical resistivity which broaden application possibilities. Enhanced materials can be used as self-heating or self-sensing systems. In the paper, AAA samples made of blastfurnace slag, water glass as an alkali activator, filler represented by three fractions of sand and electrically conductive admixtures were prepared. The ability to generate Joule’s heat is tested on samples loaded by an external DC electric source by means of measurements of temperature by K-type thermocouples in chosen points on samples. The obtained experimental data make it possible to identify a promising AAA which exhibits a sufficient increase of temperature in room conditions and can be utilized well in practical applications.
