In the Czech Republic the construction of family houses by self-support of actual investors with the minimum of contractor participation is common. Since 1970 s most houses have been built from molded bricks with concrete ceilings and reinforcing rims, covered by a wooden roof. The case study analyzes the typical range of reconstruction measures, which the specified houses are undergoing at present. The common denominator of the construction impacts are measures aimed at reducing the amount of energy needed to heat buildings. Are processes, technologies and investments of this type adequate? The part of this paper is also a test of the air tightness of the building and a measurement of the thermal insulation of the structures in the original condition and after the reconstruction.
