The aim of this course is to inform students about the basic principles and technologies of Information Systems (IS). Students will learn the basics of analysis, design, evaluation and management of information systems. Students will be educated about the current techniques and programming equipment, which are used in Information Systems.

Students will have a clear idea of modern methods of strategic management in the field of corporate IS and will be made familiar with the modern information technologies.
They will acquire basic knowledge necessary for creation of an information strategy, for evaluation of IS efficiency, they will be able to define an optimal version of new IS by means of suitable metric and to define Service Level Agreement for outsourcing in the field of IS. They will learn how to actively create corporate security policy in the field of IS and will be able to take an active part in realization of IS implementation projects and their control.

Prerekvizity

Competence in MS Office and fundamental knowledge in the field of database systems are expected.

Plánované vzdělávací činnosti a výukové metody

Výuka probíhá formou přednášek, které mají charakter výkladu základních principů, metodologie dané disciplíny a problémů. Cvičení podporují zejména praktické ovládnutí látky vyložené na přednáškách. Podpora výuky e-learning.


Způsob a kritéria hodnocení

Conditions for awarding the course-unit credit:

1. Active participation in exercises will be controlled and assessed by the teacher – max. 12 points.
2. Successful elaboration of semester work in a pre-set deadline. Maximum 10 points for delivery by the deadline, max 8 points for late delivery.
3. Total number of points for awarding the course-unit credit has to be higher than 15.

Conditions for passing an exam: Knowledge of taught topics and its practical application.
Form of examination: Combined – written test and oral examination if necessary.

Osnovy výuky

Topics of lectures are the following:
- Types of IS,
- Data and function modelling,
- Database systems,
- Information Strategies,
- IS strategic management,
- IS effectiveness, evaluation metric,
- Safety policy in the field of IS.

The seminars are focused on practising of the lectured topics and elaboration of case studies (both individually and in teams).

Učební cíle

The main objective of the course is to provide students with the fundamental theoretical knowledge necessary for management of corporate IS. It is necessary to understand the trends in IS development, to know the substance of up to-date information technologies and to understand strategic management issues in the field of IS. Students need to know how the information system may be used to gain a strategic advantage, they have to identify and master solution of questions related to the IS efficiency and its measuring, to know how to analyse the suitability of application of different IS types of in a company and also to understand fundamental principles of security policy in the field of IS.

Control of results of independent work on specified tasks. In case of excused absence from seminars, the teacher can set an additional condition, if appropriate, usually elaboration of a partial written task.
