Nobel Prize Laureate Claude Cohen-Tannoudji visited BUT

Professor Claude Cohen-Tannoudji, laureate of Nobel Prize for Physics (1997), visited Brno University of Technology, the biggest technical university in the Czech Republic. He met with students and academic staff to inspire them in their studies and scientific work. His visit was organized by company Honeywell within program Honeywell Initiative for Science & Engineering (HISE).

Claude Cohen-Tannoudji is a professor of molecular physics at Collège de France in Paris. In 1997 he was awarded with Nobel Prize together with colleagues William Phillips and Steven Chu for research in methods of laser cooling and trapping atoms.

Prof. Cohen-Tannoudji belongs to 25 Nobel Prize laureates whose lectures are organized by Honeywell since 2006. He is the fourth laureate to visit BUT and third within HISE program.

„You have a lot of possibilities to go in your career,“ said Prof. Cohen-Tannoudji to audience. „Look at your existing successes and focus on reaching your ambitious goals which you might think of as unattainable. If you do it, you have a chance to succeed.“

„Our cooperation with Honeywell helps our students in transition between academic environment and professional career,“ said Petr Štěpánek, rector of BUT. „We believe that by giving students a chance to meet and discuss things with Nobel Prize laureate and Honeywell representatives, we can inspire them to become future successful scientists and professionals in scientific and technological development.“

„We develop and produce top technologies with basic goal: to find new ways how to make the world around us safer and bring energy saving solutions for more comfortable life,“ added Jiří Tomíček, Vice President and General Manager at Honeywell Technology Solutions (HTS) Czech Republic. „Programs such as HISE bring the students a chance to meet important scientists and researchers and inspire them to develop their career in technical fields solving global challenges that people will have to face in near future.“
