Mountain Sojourn

The course focuses on gaining information and knowledge about the basics of stays and movement activities in the winter countryside and in mountain areas, from the point of view of the general public, as well as from the standpoint of the specialized leadership and organization of group stays.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course focuses on gaining information and knowledge about the basics of stays and movement activities in the winter countryside and in mountain areas, from the point of view of the general public, as well as from the standpoint of the specialized leadership and organization of group stays. Students will gain theoretical and practical knowledge of a wide spectrum of activities in a winter and high-mountain environment. They will be able to lead, control and organize group and individual mountain stays, and they will gain theoretical as well as practical knowledge for basic tuition at ski schools and skiing courses.

Prerequisites

Basic orientation in winter sports ande tays in the countryside.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Exercises promote the practical mastery of subject presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Awarding of credit:
Completion of the course (50 points) and a test of knowledge (50 points) with the classification passed "započteno" (at least at the 'sufficient' level) or failed "nezapočteno" (unsatisfactory).

- The importance of stays in the countryside, with a focus on winter and high-mountain stays.
- The fundamentals of movement, orientation and leadership of a group in high-mountain terrain.
- Equipment and clothing.
- Hiking, games and other activities within the framework of a stay in a winter environment.
- Basic technique of downhill, crosscountry skiing.
- Learning the basics of snowboarding.
- Learning the basics of walking in snow-shoes, winter Nordic walking.

- Basic technique of downhill, cross-country skiing.
- The basics of snowboarding.
- Learning the basics of walking in snow-shoes, winter Nordic walking and the basics of winter hiking.

Aims

To understand the importance of stays in winter countryside and in the mountains from the perspective of health, relaxation and fitness. To learn the basics of what is involved in staying and orientation in mountain environments. To learn the basics of downhill and cross-country skiing, to get to know the basics of snowboarding and walking in snow-shoes. To learn the basic rules of winter hiking.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Active participation in the lectures and practical lessons within the framework of the course. Cooperation to maintain the dynamic flow of the course. Active leadership of a group, organization of a training team, planning of daily programmes, preparation of a trip. A test of knowledge.
